St Michaels Mission: BBC DIY SOS

APES commander-in-chief John O’Driscoll was proud to be chief designer on the The DIY SOS Children in Need Special which aired on BBC on Tuesday 16th November 2021. The show takes viewers on an emotional rollercoaster culminating in tearful staff and delighted children welcoming a unique and historic adventure camp site to Hull.

This ambitious revamp of a three-and-a-half acre site of fields and shrub land saw over 100 volunteers work tirelessly to develop a fully accessible adventure camp site for deprived children. The project was completed in just ten days.

The jaw-dropping build offers a brand new 400-metre cycle track, an up-cycled playable full-size boat and a 30ft-high central adventure playground with three towers. Facilities also include a fully-kitted kitchen, accessible toilet facilities and showers, solar panels, a bird-watching tower constructed from reclaimed oak and an outdoor kitchen.

The adventure camp site will give local children the chance to escape the city landscape and experience the freedom and magic of the British countryside for the first time.
