Mint Street Adventure Playground
Southwark
One of the oldest APGs in London, this project involved a complete rebuild of the playground and associated edifice, designed by Erect Architecture. APES was selected as the preferred supplier alongside Neilcott Construction Group.
The site includes a public playground in the park, a staffed adventure playground involving a publicly accessible play space, plus a brand-new community/play building. The public area includes swings, climbing structures, slides, trampolines and forage planting (such as blackberries and gooseberries).
The APG includes multiple climbing towers, camps, high-level bridges, a tubular slide, high-level rope walkways and traditional border/tango swings. It is sensitively designed around existing trees with a beautifully undulating topography. Materials include a mixture of BT-grade telegraph poles, plus natural oak trees and logs sourced from a sustainably managed forest in Oxford.
